Pernyataan ini menjadi titik tolak pentingnya material sebagai fondasi perubahan besar dalam peradaban dan arah masa depan teknologi. Hal itu disampaikan Profesor Konstantin Novoselov, peraih Nobel Fisika tahun 2010, saat membuka sesi pleno pertama dalam Konvensi Sains, Teknologi, dan Industri (KSTI) Indonesia 2025 di Sasana Budaya Ganesa, Kamis (7\/8\/2025) lalu.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Novoselov mengungkapkan, material telah membentuk sejarah manusia sejak zaman batu, perunggu, dan besi, hingga kini memasuki era digital, nuklir, dan silikon.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">\u201cUntuk pertama kalinya, umat manusia tidak perlu memilih satu usia material tertentu, melainkan dapat tetap membuka berbagai kemungkinan melalui rekayasa material modern,\u201d ujar Novoselov.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Dalam paparannya, Profesor dari National University of Singapore tersebut menjelaskan bahwa dengan kemajuan teknologi saat ini, kita mampu mendesain material dari tingkat atom. Ini memungkinkan terciptanya material canggih yang dirancang khusus sesuai kebutuhan spesifik industri atau bahkan tantangan lingkungan.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">\u201cJika Anda akan mendesain material atom demi atom, satu-satunya batasan adalah imajinasimu,\u201d ungkap Novoselov.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Selain itu, Novoselov juga menyampaikan tentang perkembangan riset graphene-material 2D yang dikenal karena kekuatannya yang luar biasa dan konduktivitas listriknya yang tinggi. Meskipun ditemukan melalui metode sederhana, graphene kini telah diproduksi secara massal dan digunakan di berbagai industri, dari perangkat elektronik, baterai, hingga aplikasi dalam bidang optoelektronik.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">\u201cDari setiap telepon genggam yang kita beli saat ini pasti mengandung graphene,\u201d katanya.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Potensi terbesar graphene menurutnya bukan hanya pada produk-produk konvensional, melainkan pada functional intelligent materials, yakni material masa depan yang dapat merespon rangsangan, menyimpan memori, dan bahkan melakukan pengolahan data seperti otak manusia. Lebih jauh, Novoselov berharap akan ada kolaborasi riset yang inklusif dan inovatif di Asia dan dunia, utamanya mengenai material.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Sesi pleno ini menjadi sangat relevan dalam konteks arah kebijakan strategis Kementerian Pendidikan Tinggi, Sains, dan Teknologi (Kemdiktisaintek), yaitu Diktisaintek Berdampak. Utamanya dalam mendorong penelitian yang bukan hanya unggul secara akademik, tetapi juga aplikatif, lintas disiplin, dan berkelanjutan sejalan dengan apa yang dipresentasikan oleh Novoselov.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Melalui forum seperti KSTI Indonesia 2025, Kemdiktisaintek berkomitmen menjadikan Indonesia bukan hanya sebagai pengguna teknologi, tetapi juga sebagai pionir dalam pengembangan material dan ilmu terapan berbasis riset unggulan.
